'10 steps' pioneer

We are saddened to hear of the untimely death following an illness of Tricia Anderson, a research and independent midwife based at Bournemouth University.

Tricia was particularly well known for her work with the journal The Practising Midwife. Together with Jilly Rosser she was behind the development of the '10 steps to normal birth' first mooted in The Practising Midwife in April 2000 and refined before being endorsed by the Birth Centre Network UK. They form the basis of the 10 steps to a straightforward birth adopted in Angus and outlined on this website. Tricia was also instrumental in the very useful Informed Choice initiative, and she published widely and lectured internationally.

She leaves an amazing legacy, perhaps because she never lost sight of her goal. She said, "I remain first and foremost a clinical midwife and am committed to helping women give birth in their own way."
