New Montrose CMU latest

The process of planning a replacement for Montrose Maternity Unit is now well underway, although it will be 2009 before any bricks are laid.

The project team – which includes midwives and three service user representatives – had their monthly meeting on Tuesday. They went over the accommodation schedule (number, types and sizes of rooms) and the initial business agreement, and agreed both in principle. The finalised documents will be considered by the NHS Tayside Strategic Policy and Resources committee in June or July.

The initial business agreement sets out the case for the new unit and a list of options for its location. This includes sites around Montrose, mainly at the Links Health Centre, and at Stracathro Hospital. The pros and cons of each option will be considered and weighted at a half day meeting organised by the project team at the end of August before a decision is made. The detail has still to be worked out but service users from Montrose, Brechin, Edzell, Forfar and the Mearns will have the opportunity to take part along with midwives and the wider maternity care team.
