New Montrose unit inches forward

The initial agreement which makes the business case for a new community maternity unit serving North Angus passed the NHS Tayside Capital Scrutiny Group today and will now go forward for consideration by the organisation's Strategic Policy and Resources Committee on 25th September.

The initial agreement was drawn up by project manager Anne McConnell and Lorna Wiggin, Clinical Group Manager for Women and Child Health. Replacement accommodation for the award-winning midwife-led unit in Montrose Royal Infirmary has been promised by NHS Tayside since 2003 but the process has repeatedly stalled. The initial agreement explains why the unit needs to be relocated and suggests possible options with estimated costs.

Anne McConnell is working with Public Involvement Manager Allyson Angus and others in NHS Tayside to plan an Option Appraisal event in November, where managers, health professionals and members of the public will be invited to discuss the suitability of potential sites identified for the new unit. Five of these are in Montrose and one is at Stracathro Hospital.

The latest estimated date for project completion is early 2010.
